Survival Swim School

Erin has been a certified Infant Swimming Resource(ISR) instructor since 2009. A Florida native, born and raised in St. Petersburg, FL and graduated from the University of Florida. Water was everywhere and a big part of her everyday life as she grew up spending long summer days in the pool or at the beach! As a mother caring for three young boys, she became aware of the dangers that water presented to young children and had to prepare them. Through ISR lessons they learned how to be as safe as possible in and around the water. Most importantly, they learned to swim and float independently! They learned a healthy respect for the water and could safely enjoy it! She witnessed the life-changing experiences her young boys received from taking survival swimming lessons. It became second nature for them to roll over and get air when they needed to breathe while swimming. Since the difference between life or death in the water is whether you are face up or face down, learning these skills was priceless and became her mission to help others. She couldn’t sit on the sidelines any longer and had to become a participating member of the wonderful ISR organization so that Not One More Child Drowns! Over the last 13 years, Erin has taught thousands of ISR lessons to young children. It is her passion to teach them these lifelong skills.

What Do We Do?

Your child’s safety is our first priority. Each lesson is uniquely tailored to your child’s needs based on comprehensive assessment and continual monitoring of your child’s health and skill attainment. Because, every child learns at his or her own pace, your child will be gently guided through each skill level.

  • Customized and taught one-on-one by a certified ISR instructor

  • Lessons last for no longer than 10 minutes, Monday through Friday for 4 to 6 weeks

  • Emphasize health, ongoing program evaluations and parent education

  • Provide your child with the competence and confidence to safely enjoy the water

A child 6-12 months learns:

  • To hold their breath underwater

  • To roll onto their back

  • To float unassisted, rest and breathe until help arrives

  • To perform these ISR Self-Rescue™ skills first in a swim diaper and then while fully clothed

A child 1-6 years learns:

  • To hold their breath underwater

  • Swim with their head down

  • Roll onto their back to float, rest and breathe

  • Roll back over to resume swimming until they reach the side of the pool, crawl out or be rescued by an adult

  • To perform these ISR Self-Rescue skills first in a swim diaper/bathing suit and then while fully clothed

Refresher Lessons:

Refresher Lessons are extremely important in continuing and maintaining your child’s ISR Self-Rescue skill development. Children grow and develop rapidly from infants to toddlers and young children. This development process represents improved strength, coordination, and a more finely tuned cognitive ability. In accordance with this growth, children enrolled in ISR return periodically to participate in refresher lessons.

Refresher Lessons are designed to fine-tune your child’s existing ISR Self-Rescue skills to meet the demands of their growing bodies. It will allow them to make adjustments in their float and strengthen their swim.

Previous Rollback-to-Float students, refresher lessons will likely take approximately 2-3 weeks.

Maintenance Lessons:

Maintenance lessons are also available at any time for regular fine-tuning of your child's skills. These lessons are highly recommended to alleviate the need for refresher lessons. Maintenance lessons are a good way to address any potential problems that could arise if left unchecked for too long.
